The Best Memorial Day Sales 2022

The Best Memorial Day Sales 2022

Memorial Day weekend is traditionally chock-full of hyped-up sales. Most of them are garbage. We never want you to get taken in by a bad deal, which is why the Wirecutter Deals team only posts real deals on great gear amid a sea of crummy deals on subpar items.

We’ve rounded up our favorite real deals on everything from sleep essentials—like bedding and mattresses—to excellent prices on appliances and outdoor grills.

Deal spotlight: Onsen Bath Towel Set

A close up of the waffle weave on the Onsen bath towel.

Onsen Bath Towel (Set of 2)
Deal price: $75 with code WCSET; street price: $100

Towels are unique. One person’s plush dream is another’s terrycloth nightmare. If you err on the lighter, quicker-drying side of the towel spectrum, we recommend the Onsen Bath Towel Set. The luxurious-looking lattice towels dry much faster than your average terry cloth. They’re the most expensive towel we recommend, but in terms of lattice styles, they’re surprisingly well-priced—even more so when they’re on sale. Right now, you can save on a set of two when you use the code WCSET; it’s a solid deal on luxurious-looking towels.

Deal spotlight: Bose QuietComfort 45 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones

Bose QuietComfort 45 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones
Deal price: $280; street price: $330

Drown out those pesky outside noises and immerse yourself in the music with a quality pair of noise-cancelling headphones. An update to our long standing favorite, the QuietComfort 35, the upgraded 45 has a better battery and newer features, such as awareness mode, background-noise-reducing microphones, and compatibility with Bose soundbars—which allows you to use the 45 as a pair of wireless TV headphones. While we think these wireless, over-ear, noise-cancelling headphones are a great option, we ultimately preferred the adjustable active noise cancelling of the Bose 700's. However, if that's not a feature you need, this deal is a solid chance to save on a great alternative.

Deal spotlight: Leesa Sapira Hybrid

The Leesa Hybrid mattress, in a bedroom, shown without bedding.

Leesa Sapira Hybrid Mattress (Queen)
Deal price: $1,050 with code WIRECUTTER; street price: $1,500

Offering better cooling and a thicker cover than its competition—plus a 100-day trial period and 10-year warranty—it’s no wonder the durable Leesa Sapira Hybrid is our longtime top pick for the best memory foam mattress you can buy online. Combining the best components of memory foam and spring mattresses, the Leesa Sapira Hybrid is an 11-inch hybrid mattress with over 1,000 springs and four layers of CertiPUR-US-certified memory foam that provide optimal pressure relief and bounce. This mattress is the same as the Leesa Hybrid—after a recent rebranding Leesa returned to the mattress’s original name, the Sapira. We saw the Sapira Hybrid for about $50 less from Amazon earlier this month, but this is still a great drop from $1,500 with code WIRECUTTER.

Deal spotlight: Apple Watch Series 7

Apple Watch Series 7 (41 mm, Aluminum)
Deal price: $330; street price: $400

If you already own an iPhone and are looking to add a smartwatch to your daily wear, an Apple Watch is your best bet. Whether you’re getting your first Apple Watch or upgrading an older version, we think the Series 7 is the best model for most folks. Apple's newest iteration presents the best combination of style, message handling, activity tracking, app selection, and battery life of any smartwatch. Though it's more expensive than the SE, the Series 7 offers additional premium features such as an always-on display, blood oxygen measurement, ECG, more crack-resistant glass, and faster charging.

Deal spotlight: Microsoft Xbox Series S

Microsoft Xbox Series S
Deal price: $250; street price: $300

If you don't care about physical discs (who even buys physical games anymore?) and aren't invested in gaming in 4K, the Xbox Series S is a great game console. The Series S allows you to play the latest generation of Xbox games, and is compatible with a huge library of backwards compatible games. The Series S doesn't support true 4K gaming like the Series X, but it does support 4K media streaming and can upscale games to 4K if your TV supports it. The 512 GB SSD of the Series S is a decent size, but you'll probably want to get an external hard drive as a place to store less played games. Back down to $250, this deal matches the previous best price we've seen for the Xbox Series S.

TV and laptop deals

Acer Predator Triton 300 (PT315-53-79FG)
Deal price: $1200; street price: $1470

As games become more advanced and demanding, it's getting harder and harder to find affordable laptops that can handle them. The Acer Triton is our favorite option under $1500. It has a powerful processor and graphics card at the that can run almost any game well on high settings, and it's easy to upgrade the RAM and storage if you need more. However, it runs hot and has quiet speakers that the fans can drown out. This build comes with our recommended 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.

Razer Book 13-Inch Laptop (11th Gen i7, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD)
Deal price: $1500; street price: $1750

The Razer Book 13 isn’t better at most things than our top Windows Ultrabook pick, but it does have a customizable RGB keyboard and a variety of ports. It's slightly heavier with slightly worse battery life than our pick, but it's compact and offers a reliable trackpad, nice display, and nearly all the ports your heart could desire. A good deal for better specs than we typically recommend, this model with an 11th gen intel i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, a 1 TB SSD is down to $1500. A new low price for this particular model, we think this discount is a great deal for a loaded Razer Book 13.

Samsung The Frame 75-Inch LCD TV
Deal price: $1980; street price: $2200

When it comes to TVs, some folks prioritize aesthetic over having the latest and greatest features. If you agree, we recommend Samsung's The Frame for its less invasive, more decor-friendly design. This elegant LCD model sits perfectly flush against the wall, just like a framed piece of art. When not in use, the TV's smart screensaver can even display photos or art to keep up the appearance. This model is also 4K-capable and offers some handy features, like built-in Alexa. Although still expensive (even on sale), this deal is the first notable drop we've seen in the lager 75-inch size.

Read our review of the best "rollable screens, art frames, and easels: these TVs think outside the box".

LG C1 OLED TV (2021 Model, 55-inch) + $100 Visa Gift Card
Deal price: $1100; street price: $1400

Update: Now bundled with a $100 Visa Gift Card. If you want the best-looking TV image on the market, an OLED TV is the way to go. Our top pick produces fantastic 4K HDR images for an extremely reasonable price. It has a thin, sleek build and supports the leading high dynamic range standards, which allows you to get the best picture possible from HDR sources. You can also customize and tweak the visuals (no matter the media) with both a filmmaker and game optimizer mode. Some more expensive OLED models offer better image brightness and video processing, but we think most people won't find the higher price worth it. This is a good price for the 55-inch size, but note: The successor to this model, the C2, has been released. You'll just pay more for it and are unlikely to see meaningful deals for a sec.

Read our review of the best OLED TV.

Roku Express 4k+ Media Streamer
Deal price: $29; street price: $40

Update: Down another dollar to $29. The streaming capabilities included with many TVs aren't always up to snuff. Luckily, media streamers can help fill the gap. The 2021 Roku Express is a very compact option that makes it easy to fit behind your TV, and now includes a remote that doesn't require line of sight. Although the Express supports HDR10+, not many other services or TVs currently support that feature. The Express also delivers lower-quality Wi-Fi than the competition, but it's very affordable. If you don't like the stick configuration of our other pick and want to spend the least, the Express is a decent option at $30.

Apple deals from Costco and others

Costco's sitewide Memorial Day sale includes price drops on some of our favorite picks from Apple. Here are the best Apple deals we've spotted so far from Costco and other retailers.

Apple iPad (9th generation, 64 GB)
Deal price: $295; street price: $325

You'd be hard-pressed to find a better, more affordable general use-tablet option than the new iPad (9th generation). It offers an unbeatable selection of apps, long battery life, stellar hardware quality, and unrivaled customer support. The 9th generation iPad even comes with twice the storage of its predecessor for the same base price, and our experts think 64 GB of memory should be sufficient for most. This deal is a new low price for this model, but is only available for Costco members. The $295 price includes the cost of shipping and handling.

Saatva Classic Mattress (Luxury Firm, Queen)
Deal price: $1,174; street price: $1,695

The Saatva Classic delivers all the bounce of a traditional innerspring mattress without the usual creaking or rigidity. It has pocketed microcoils and a plush cotton and memory foam top for optimal pressure relief no matter what position you sleep in. However, the Classic doesn’t have the best motion isolation, so rotisserie-style sleepers may still face the ire of their partner. The Classic’s street price has recently increased, but we still think this deal is a solid discount. Plus, it includes a 365-day trial period and a lifetime warranty. (Note: Returns and exchanges elicit a $100 fee.)

Read our review of the best innerspring mattresses.

The WinkBed (Luxury Firm, Queen)
Deal price: $1,345 with code WCMEMDAY; street price: $1,500

If you prefer a firmer mattress, the WinkBed is a medium-firm polyfoam mattress that provides a nice cushion but does not have as much spring as its previous iteration. It’s less cradling than the Saatva and has 1,054 pocketed coils internally and around the rim that create an overall denser and supportive mattress. We initially found the WinkBed overly stiff, (particularly against our shoulders), but it quickly broke in after about a week of use, nicely balancing give and support throughout the body. It also includes a 120-night trial period, a four-month satisfaction guarantee, and a lifetime warranty. Right now, both the Luxury Firm and Softer models (the two models we preferred of WinkBed’s three offerings) are on sale with promo code WCMEMDAY.

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Topper Supreme Mattress Topper (Queen)
Deal price: $220 with clipped on-page coupon; street price: $240

This dense but soft mattress topper delivers just the right amount of cushion and support. There's no getting around it—the Tempur-Topper is expensive. But unlike other memory foam options we tested, it never caused our testers to overheat. It's a long-term stopgap mattress enhancer that actually does a lot for the price—especially compared with buying an entirely new mattress. Right now, you can snag the queen size for $220 when you clip the on-page coupon. While we're frustrated this topper hasn't fallen lower, it matches the best price we've seen since early 2021.

L.L.Bean 280-Thread-Count Pima Cotton Percale Sheet Set (Queen)
Deal price: $135 with code WCSLEEP15; street price: $159

Like a bidet, high-quality sheets are one of those luxuries you just need to try out for yourself. With a durable construction that only gets softer with each wash, this supple and breathable percale set from L.L.Bean has been our top cotton sheets pick for four years running. We’ve seen better markdowns in the past, but considering that these sheets have increased in street price over the past few years, we think this drop to $135 is still a solid deal. Don’t forget to use promo code WCSLEEP15 to save on this set of cool, crisp sheets.

Brooklinen Waffle Robe
Deal price: $79 with code WIRECUTTER; street price: about $85

There’s nothing quite like curling up in a cozy robe. The airy and polished Brooklinen Waffle Robe is our spa-style robe pick. It’s cozy and thick without feeling heavy, and though it wasn’t as plush as some picks, it was still soft and flattering on our testers. This robe is also made of the same materials as Brooklinen’s towels, which are absorbent but not soggy—perfect for throwing on after a shower. Make sure to use the code WIRECUTTER at checkout to snag the discounted price.

Cuisinart Power Advantage Plus 9-Speed Hand Mixer (White)
Deal price: $70; street price: $80

A good hand mixer is a great addition to any kitchen. It helps with time-consuming or tiring tasks and allows you to expand your baking repertoire without breaking a sweat. The Cuisinart Power Advantage Plus is a sturdy and effective little machine we like for occasional baking and making smaller recipes. It has a nice range of speeds, plenty of attachments, and an intelligently designed case that snaps onto the machine for easy storage. The Cuisinart is loud and a bit awkward to handle, but it’s much more affordable than our top pick. We’ve seen this mixer for much less in the past, but this deal is only the third notable drop we’ve posted since 2020.

KitchenAid Pro 600 Series 6-Quart Bowl-Lift Stand Mixer (Refurbished)
Deal price: $260; street price: $430

If you’re a serious baker, the Pro 600 is a workhorse stand mixer that’s often found in professional kitchens. Our bigger batches stand mixer pick, the 600 Series has a bigger bowl and stronger motor—but it also takes up more space and runs louder than our top pick. This refurbished model comes direct from the manufacturer and includes a 12-month limited warranty. New subscribers to Kitchenaid's email newsletter can save some additional money with a one-time-use coupon code sent via email when you sign up at the bottom of the product page.

iRobot Roomba i3 EVO Robot Vacuum (Refurbished)
Deal price: $187 with code MEMDAY15OFF; street price: $220

High-quality robot vacuums may seem like a luxury, but if you’re willing to shop refurbished, you can get some luxury at a more affordable price. The iRobot Roomba i3 EVO is an ideal choice for larger spaces with rugs and shedding pets. It delivers strong suction, tangle-resistant brushes, smart navigation, and like most Roomba vacuums, it is more durable and reparable than other brands. Although it isn’t as quick or clever as our other top pick (the Roborock S4 Max), the i3 EVO still boasts features like Reactive Sensor Technology and Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility. This refurb is sold directly by the manufacturer via eBay and comes with a two-year warranty through Allstate. The same model with a self-emptying base is also on sale right now with the same code.

iRobot Braava Jet 240 Robot Mop
Deal price: $153 with code MEMDAY15OFF; street price: $180

Day-to-day life really takes a toll on your floors. If your home has high-traffic areas in need of a little extra attention, we recommend the Braava Jet. Basically an automatic Swiffer, the Braava is small, quiet, and easy to use. It won’t polish your floors to the nines, but it will keep them tidy with minimal effort (just the press of a button). It’d be a stretch to call the Braava “smart”: It doesn’t charge itself or map your home, so you have to plug it in after each use and place it in the rooms you want to clean. But the Braava is durable, relatively sophisticated, and by far the easiest way to add mopping to your chores without really adding mopping to your chores.

The Ooni Fyra 12 wood pellet pizza oven, our budget pick for best pizza oven, on a metal table with a wooden peel.

Ooni Fyra 12 Wood Pellet Pizza Oven
Deal price: $280; street price: $350

Forget delivery, forget DiGiorno: If you want delicious pizza without shelling out the extra dough for a flight to Italy, consider investing in a quality pizza oven. Despite being both smaller and lighter than our top pick, the wood-pellet-fired Ooni Fyra gets just as hot while offering more control over your fuel use. This model doesn’t come without its quirks—namely, its compact size makes it a bit trickier to maneuver your pies, and the hopper only fits enough pellets for about 15 minutes of cooking time (which can get tedious if you’re hosting a pizza party). However, if you like your pizzas homemade with just a whisper of smokiness, this is a solid deal at $280.

Solo Stove Bonfire Smokeless Fire Pit
Deal price: $210 with code STEVEO; street price: $220

The Solo Stove Bonfire allows you to safely enjoy the warmth and fun of a campfire from the comfort of your backyard. When used correctly, the Solo’s compact frame and double-walled design intensifies the fire’s heat to burn more efficiently and produce less smoke. While its single-piece design is relatively lightweight and convenient overall, it makes cleaning a little more complicated—especially if you don’t have access to a hose. This deal is only $5 shy of the previous low price we saw over Black Friday when you use the code STEVEO.

SimpliSafe Shield Home Security System (11-Piece Set)
Deal price: $160; street price: $260

Our top pick for the best home security system, SimpliSafe is both easy to install and easy to use—we also like this option for its overall affordability and style. This Shield kit, a Best Buy exclusive, includes a base station, keypad, two motion sensors, key fob, and six entry sensors. Simplisafe supports Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and August Smart Locks (but not Apple HomeKit), though its "smart" integration is limited. Typically selling for more than $250 for this 11-piece kit, this deal offers another great drop to $160 if the components work for your home setup. Like all security systems, expect additional monthly costs for active monitoring.

Lenovo Yoga 7i (14″) Laptop (Intel 11th Gen Core i5, 12 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD)
Deal price: $700; street price: $850

A budget favorite and pick featured in our guides to the best laptop, the best ultrabook, and the best laptops for college students, this upgraded Lenovo Yoga 7i (14-inch) is at the lowest price we've seen since the beginning of the year. The Yoga 7i is a reliable and cost-effective laptop—this model features a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 14-inch touchscreen, 512 GB SSD, and 12 GB of RAM. Though it is larger and offers less battery life than top pick, we found that the 7i is still powerful enough to last through the whole work day. In addition, the Lenovo comes with built-in Alexa, a touch-screen and fingerprint reader, USB-C charging, a built-in webcam, and a backlit keyboard—all features that are commonly absent in most other budget Ultrabooks.

$100 Instacart Gift Card (Digital Delivery)
Deal price: $85; street price: $100

Save on your next grocery shopping delivery with an Instacart gift card. Unlike some other services that ship your groceries from a warehouse, Instacart employs independent contractors to shop directly at your choice of available retailers. It also offers the option to select store pickup for some retailers. Note: Instacart charges a higher premium for delivery fees, and although it delivers to areas in all 50 states, Instacart does not cover every zip code. This deal is for a digital card, so instructions to redeem the gift card will be emailed after purchase.

Home Depot and Lowe's Memorial Day sales

Both Home Depot and Lowe's are offering Memorial Day sales, and we'll add any standout deals as we see them.

We've spotted a notable discount on the LG WM400H, Wirecutter's pick for best waching machine. Described in our guide as "fast, gentle, effective and reliable" this front-loader is discounted at both Home Depot and Lowe's for $898. While we've seen better deals on this machine at the end of last year, if you need a washing machine, now is a good time to purchase it.

Ego Power+ Self-Propelled Mower LM2102SP (Lowe's)
Deal price: $500; street price: $550

Spring is here and summer is right around the corner, so there's no better time to save on a lawn mower to help get your yard into tip top shape. Once again you can snag our runner-up lawn mower pick for $500 when you choose store pickup. Though the Ego Power+ Self-Propelled Mower LM2102SP isn't quite as featured-packed as our top pick, it still offers much of the same convenience and quality at a lower price. While this isn't the best price we've ever seen for this mower, it's still a nice opportunity to save on a seasonal item. Those willing to pickup in-store should keep in mind that this is a heavy item in a larger box that might no fit into all small cars. Scheduled delivery is also available for an additional fee.

Tempur-Adapt Mattress (Medium Hybrid, Queen) + $300 Home Depot Gift Card
Deal price: $2200; street price: $2400

The price of many items have gone up and mattresses are no exception. We've seen the street price on the Tempur-Adapt Hybrid mattress go up over the past couple years, but we've seen a similar climb across the board. While this deal is $100 more than we saw last year and basically matches the street price of the Tempur-Adapt (Medium Hybrid) in the queen size, it does include a substantial $300 Home Depot gift card, which will be sent in the mail to the same address where the mattress is shipped. It's a very comfortable and pricey option from our guide to the best memory foam mattresses you can buy online, and we think that it's perfect for for stomach, side, and back sleepers that like a firmer mattress. This mattress is also one of the few memory foam mattresses that are suitable for people over 200 pounds.
